For the Record |
|
|
Thirty-eight people attended our May 2008 meeting, during which Michelle Gladieux (of Gladieux Consulting), made a two-hour presentation on proven techniques for effective communication. Her presentation was semi-formal, with frequent opportunities for audience engagement. The techniques presented will be useful in both general communication and in project management.
Those who attended the meeting had the opportunity to take a feedback survey.
A summary of that survey follows:
- 90% of the respondents gave the meeting an overall rating of "Very Good", and 10% gave it an overall rating fo "Good".
- All of the respondents "Agreed" or "Strongly Agreed" that the program covered an interesting topic, that it helped expand their knowldege of project management, that it provided either new learning or a valuable refresher, that the material presented would be useful in either a work or personal life, and that the presenter did a good job of engaging the group.
- All were either "Satisfied" or "Very Satisfied" that the meeting gave them the opportunity to meet other project management professionals.
- 95% said that they would very likely recommend a future NEIC meeting to a friend or colleague.

September Chapter Meeting
"Relocating our Facility" - presented by Kenny Bergle |
Sweetwater Sound describes itself as a "music technology resource", which provides sales, service, and support for music and professional audio gear, and also provides recording facilities. So obviously, moving to a new facility would be something different than "business as usual" - in other words, a major project. The relocation involved greatly expanding and remodeling an old North American Van Lines building using "green technologies", then moving a warehouse full of inventory without compromising almost 1000 shipments per day, and relocating hundreds of employees some of whom were providing 24/7 sales and support services. And recording engagements that had been booked also had to be honored. The meeting will be Wednesday, September 24th, at Sweetwater Sound, which is located at 5501 US Hwy 30 West (the intersection of US 30 and Kroemer Road), in Fort Wayne. Networking begins at 5:30 PM, dinner is served at 6:00 PM (Sweetwater has its own kitchen and chef!), and the presentation begins at 7:00 PM.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear how Sweetwater conducted this multi-year project, and to get a tour of the new facility! |

President's Column
by Kathi Heyes
"What I Did On My Summer Vacation" |

As you may recall from my last column, the NEIC Board was going to focus on the following items over the summer break:
· Draft the Chapter Processes and Procedures documentation · Draft the Records Retention Organization · Draft a plan for systematically reviewing items from PMI's "Site for Components" (Chapter are "components"), such as the Chapter Handbook, Charter, Bylaws, and other documentation I'm very happy to report that we have accomplished the first two items, and are still working on the third. In addition, we started development on a chapter documentation repository. The basic foundation of that repository is in place, and we are starting to collect documents and getting them filed in the appropriate places. This document storage structure will be presented to the BOD at the September meeting. And finally, we are very happy with the tremendous response we had from applicants for the David Arthur Maynard Scholarship! Congratulations to Rob Vollenweider! Prior to this year's competition, we refined the evaluation and selection process, but this is still a work-in-progress. All in all, it was a pretty productive summer for our Board, which should result in "more and better" things for our members. Stay tuned - there's more to come!

Scholarship Winner! |
|

Congratulations to Rob Vollenweider on winning the David Arthur Maynard Scholarship for 2008! Rob will be attending IU at Bloomington in the Fall, majoring in Accounting and Finance. He is the son of Dale Vollenweider, NEIC Board member. Rob was one of three finalists for the scholarship who made a 10-minute presentation to the NEIC Board. The Board felt that Rob did an outstanding job of presenting, and responded well to questions.

Board Report |
The Board of Directors met on September 10th. Here are the items your volunteer Board is working on:
· We need program ideas for the monthly meetings beginning with the January meeting.
· Election of Officers will be coming up soon; we need to determine which Board members intend to re-run for office, so we can begin looking for other volunteers.
· We discussed the development of a membership recruitment strategy.
· We decided that the annual Scholarship program needs a permanent "owner", or possibly a sub-committee. The Director of Academic Outreach is the logical owner; the position is currently open.
· Looking at alternatives for an electronic repository for the Chapter's documents and records; MS-Office Live was suggested as one possibility.
· Reviewed budgeted amounts vs. actual expenditures; development of next year's budget begins in October (next month).
· The October BOD meeting will be extended to allow time for a review of the Chapter Handbook. | |
